the above example is a classic tumblr meme, but it really does communicate a pretty clear point: the anon asking for lesbians to be trigger tagged is in the wrong, as the implication that queer people need to cater to people who want them hidden from view is very obviously bad

but the obvious queermisia about something like that is not the only reason someone might not choose to overtag a post. tagging a post inherently puts it into an indexable tag feed that anyone might be able to search through, and in many circumstances someone might not want that. a trans person might refrain from putting their selfies in a selfies tag to avoid chasers, a plural system might not want to put themselves out there in a public plural tag to get yelled at by a sysmed, and, indeed, a group of therians who have somehow gotten put at the center of a site culture war might not want a list of every one of their posts in a single place

additionally in general, someone might not want an idle musing put in a tag feed, as the point of social media is not always to be seen in that way. untagged posts are an intentional feature of social media tagging systems, and declaring that a whole group is not allowed to use them and in fact must must have a global feed is silly. the whole idea of the cohost global feed tag was that it's opt-in so you're not forced to use it, and yet i've heard some arguments for the yinglets that "oh your typing quirk tag would be a global feed for you :)" as if it's a positive thing

additionally, many of these yinglets literally post nothing but in quirk, and acting like it's completely free to expect them to remember to tag literally every post they make and act like they'd be ableist if they even forgot one is just ridiculous. as many of them have said, if it's that much of a problem, you're better off blocking or silencing them.

tagging is an intentional choice, one that is inherently not neutral, even if you think it's just tagging for filtering. for example, the fact that i've tagged this post "discourse" (which is ostensibly for filtering!) is going to mean there will be people showing up in my comments to yell at me that wouldn't have if i left this post untagged.
