And so my journey begins, somewhat inauspiciously. My employer, M Fogg, has accepted a wager that he cannot circumnavigate the globe in eighty days. Having little time to pack, I brought his altimeter, his full suit, and a wax cylinder of a symphony, as we headed to Paris post-haste, and I suspect such an item will find a high price in the cosmopolitan city. In fact, we left with such haste we neglected to buy tickets for the train and, much to my embarrassment, when asked by the conductor I attempted to feign having lost them, only for M Fogg to explain that we had no such tickets. An honest man, if an impulsive one.
Due to the sudden and late manner of our departure, my first day's journey was short and abrupt. I shall see what awaits us in Paris in the morning.
