Recall captures text and images of literally everything you have ever done on your PC and make it searchable via Copilot. Emails, web browsing, video calls, app usage, etc.
The minimum hard drive space needed to run Recall is 256 GB, and 50 GB of space must be available. The default allocation for Recall on a device with 256 GB will be 25 GB, which can store approximately 3 months of snapshots. You can increase the storage allocation for Recall in your PC Settings. Old snapshots will be deleted once you use your allocated storage, allowing new ones to be stored.
Recall won’t work with every Windows 11 computer. You’ll have to buy one of several fresh new “Copilot Plus PCs” powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X Elite chips, which have the neural processing unit (NPU) required for Recall to work. But I'd wager it won't be long until the find a way to roll the feature backwards much like Samsung has with their Galaxy AI features on S23 and S22 phones.
Do you really want a 256GB database of all of your activity stored for hackers to easily peruse? Microsoft still hasn't put out any solid information on where your Copilot data is even going in terms of telemetry and why it will be used for.
And from an IT perspective this is also going to be an issue for CUI, HIPAA, and any other confidential forms of data produced by companies. And they fucking wonder why over 56% of PCs are still running Windows 10.
