I wrote a lot of words before I could write my The Boy and the Heron review, and I liked some of them enough to use for this experiment/project/"video essay." So this isn't like, how I feel today about these things today (see the review for that). It's me working through my feelings on class in Miyazaki's filmography. I even misremember some details of The Wind Rises, but that's just part of the discursive journey here. Anyways, there are very cursory plot details in here as well as some trailer footage. Shoutouts to Yussef for the Wind Rises footage!

ok cohost I've been wanting to experiment with a video project but I am starting from close to zero on this and one of the things I wanna do requires some wind rises+grave of the fireflies+boy and the heron clips and I'd rather not splice everything from trailers. is torrenting the only practical option here?

There have been both anticipated (Cece hat) and unanticipated (conflating headcanon and subtext) counter arguments to the Polygon article (not to mention bad faith transphobia). There's also been much more agreement from critics than I expected and even additional examples added in shares (Sidon). I have more I want to say about it and wouldn't deny anyone disagreeing with their thoughts, but the piece is 1450 words long and I am a queer games writer. As fairly as I was compensated for openly writing about this kinda thing on the internet once, I am not going to really Get Into It on my socials. Which sucks cus I'd love to tbh! But this1 is not the place for me to do that.

  1. Honesty if it was just cohost that'd be different but rn I have three public socials I share my work. I already got the "pronouns in bio" crap on Twitter and Bluseky is not made for this. And there's over 50 comments on the site itself too??
