I hadn't revisited this since the 2000s but remembered it so fondly, and was excited to sit down over Thanksgiving and rewatched it with Destiny, who had never seen it. It's astonishing how much this feels like a movie that would be parodying the time it's simply from, full of incredibly specific and iconic needle drops and ridiculous CG that buoys the fact that Jet Li is just the coolest motherfucker in the world. Also, Jason Statham is a BABY in this movie, and has a really bad American accident he can't hold onto because they're clearly ten years too late to get Bruce Willis but they really, REALLY wish they had Bruce Willis in this role.

Anyway, the movie's really funny and the action scenes are pretty sick. The movie belabors the idea of a multiverse to the point you expect them to break out a chart, but also it was 2001 and while The Matrix was big nobody actually trusted audiences with goofy sci fi concepts. If anything good has come out of the last 15 years of Marvel dominance, it's just going with really pulpy scifi stories without a ton of 'no really you have to UNDERSTAND, there are MULTIPLE UNIVERSES'.

Anyway, the movie rips. Jet Li is so good in it, I love his evil version just deciding being a god is cooler than being a cop. James Wong don't miss.

This movie is so sick, and the soundtrack is such an amazing encapsulation of 2001. Down with the sickness, Bodies, Last Resort, this movie knew exactly the crowd it was pandering to and rewatching this feels like stepping into a time machine.
