today after taking a pair of red-eye flights back to back i ended up hitting a rare state of exhaustion i'm dubbing "cake mode" where i start singing incomprehensible Cake-style songs about whatever passes through my train of thought. this happened while a very kind friend was driving me home from the airport, and i'm still pretty proud of the rhythm i got while repeatedly reading off the business name on the side of a van. after getting home, to reset myself i decided to take a luxurious 90-minute midday nap which turned into a grueling three-hour midday nap when i missed the alarm i'd set for myself through the power of sheer sleepiness. at one point i got up to turn a different alarm off, saw my nap alarm went off half an hour ago, thought "oh good, i have half an hour left" and went to sleep for another hour, transporting me nearly all the way to dark morning since the sun goes down at like 2pm these days. anyways now i'm here and i'm no longer in cake mode and i have a coffee in me, which is always a good thing to drink at or right before sunset, and i'm supposed to go to sleep in another six hours or so to reset my sleep schedule properly. also i have a cute new sleep mask that has a bear pun on it, and i do love bears as an animal, so i'm pretty jazzed about the state of things
oh yeah also dark morning is when you take a nap during the day and wake up after sunset. it's one of the most cursed states of being imo, behind 3am brain crash and actually getting cursed (which happened to me once in san francisco, i wanna say gdc 2018, ate half a tarot card for business reasons and had awful luck for the following week. so i'd recommend against doing that)
