A friend who's currently obsessed with A Song of Ice and Fire has decided to run the official ttrpg.

The rulebook is a fucking mess. Weapon and armour costs, weights and descriptions are in the equipment chapter, while most of their combat stats are in one part of the combat chapter, except reach for melee weapons which is several pages after the rest of the stats.

The character creation chapter is 3 chapters before the house creation chapter, which it says to do first but can't be done without everyone present so of course everyone's gonna plan their character first. Character creation emphasises Status and has a table showing that the lord, lady, heir and maybe second child of a house should be status 6 and other roles have quite high status. House creation says the Status of a lord is limited by the Influence of their house, with examples splitting the Great Houses between Status 5 and 6, and in practice Status 5 being a pretty extraordinary result from pretty lucky rolls. It also says the heir must have Status of one less than the lord, a second son/eldest daughter is two less, and any other offspring who are of any note are stuck at minus three. All of these tie up points of Influence. Fortunately offspring of no notable Status don't cost anything and the baseline for Status is 2, so none of a Status 5 lord's younger children count for shit I guess.

Still, I like my character. She's a commoner. Status 2. :yeah:
