always feel kind of weird when people are like "delete all your art from [website] because they're gonna sell it to openai" because like.... openai already has all your art? Like they already scraped everything off twitter/tumblr/artstation/wherever the fuck; that's how they built the datasets in the first place
not saying you shouldn't take whatever precautions you think are necessary, it just feels like locking the proverbial barn door after the proverbial horse heist
best I can come up with for "why is [insert website] entering an agreement with [ai startup]" at this point is basically: every "platform" site is now ALSO attempting to lock the barn door after getting their horses jacked
after suddenly realizing text/images made after 2019 are really valuable to ai startups, everybody's trying (mostly unsuccessfully) to shut down scraping via rate limits, and then instead try to sell API access
this makes mercenary sense from a "CEO of a social media website" standpoint, but as an artist posting your work online: AI fucks are gonna steal all your shit regardless. Whether they pay tumblr for it or just scrape it themselves makes no difference
