It's still not good. I don't know how this game took off, but I also can't hate it if it gets people interested in Hunting RPGs in general. In every hunting rpg I've played so far, the monsters feel like they're a part of their world. They aren't always perfectly implemented, but they belong in-universe. In Dauntless it feels like they were designed as "alright, here's a monster design, give it an element and plunk it in the appropriate region." The monsters feel lifeless and reactionary. They have pre-defined "combat zones" that you can easily leave and they just roam in circles in that combat zone until a player enters it. Meanwhile even in the first Monster Hunter you can watch monsters roam around, eating grass, looking like they're alive. Also every monster in Dauntless has a severable tail and you can sever it with ANY weapon. I severed a tail BY PUNCHING IT. Look, if you like Dauntless, more power to you, but please try any other hunting rpg whether it's Monster Hunter, God Eater, Toukiden, heck I'd even recommend Lord of Arcana over this. It's just not good.
