Hi all, I had a story idea but I'm not sure if it's actually interesting or not. I'm having fun writing it currently, but we all know how sometimes things start off fine and dry up just as fast. But yeah, if you're interested in giving it a read, here's the part I wrote tonight. The main character is Elbia Pilier, pronouns they/them, born with only one arm, and the latest in a long line of clones. Please enjoy, or if it's awful well... I guess don't enjoy?

The Pilier family was not exactly as it appeared. For the last 300 years they had an almost monopoly on genetic engineering technology, though at one point no one felt they could stop them as no other group could pay researchers what they make working for Pilier Genitica. Elbia Pilier understood the weight of responsibility that came from running the company and keeping the family’s finances secure. They understood how hard their family pushed for the perfection of genetic engineering, after all Elbia was a direct result of the advances their family made.
Starting 300 years ago, the heir of the family has been a direct clone of the previous head. With genetic engineering not being perfect, some variations did pop up, but this allowed the family to keep this discreet with very few people knowing about it. It was publicly shared back when the first Pilier clone came to be as it was considered one of the greatest advancements of science, however all subsequent generations were not disclosed as clones to the public. The Pilier family took great pride in using the research from their scientists to perfect the cloning process and remove as many mutations as possible.
All of this was coming to a head, however. Elbia was feeling pressure from the outside world as well as in their own body as the tolls of the testing and medical care needed to maintain them were starting to take affect. Because of the cloning process the Pilier family used, Elbia was not given the genetic resistances to various diseases every other person was born with. Elbia had to constantly get vaccinated and have their blood drawn to check for any issues that came from constant space travel. Elbia also had the additional strain of having been born without their right arm, leaving them one handed. The previous heir tried to get them an artificial arm, but Elbia consistently refused, using their distinct trait as a badge of honor and uniqueness in the long line.
Meanwhile, a new startup appeared on the other side of the galaxy and showed promising research, but refused to sell to Pilier Genetica, even at twenty times their value. There were internal discussions that some of the research coming from the other company may have even been leaked from Pilier Genetica, but so far no one has been able to substantiate the rumors, so that’s all that they remained, rumors.Elbia was of mixed opinion on the startup, both believing the company should be left alone to run course and believing that they should be brought in under the umbrella of Pilier Genetica to keep all potential genetic breakthroughs under their control.
