The popularity of eggbug has contributed tremendous evidence to my belief that humanity's platonic ideal of a cute thing is basically a fat oval shape with two dots for eyes and a simple mouth. You can create this magic object in like two minutes by poking at a sphere primitive and doodling on it and it could singlehandedly carry an entire subfandom in a game of your choice if it had hands, which it does not. It has roundness and a few facelike signifiers. If you put a thing like this in front of a human being they will die for it.

as someone who lost my mind for days straight upon seeing the Great Serpent of Ronka, paid a friend a hundred bucks to make a plushie of it, and continues to praise its roundness extensively on Cohost, I can attest to this

(though I'll also add that I think a big part of what makes something Appealingly Round is the... vibes? lore?? the Great Serpent of Ronka is delightful to me not just for its shape, but the sheer joyful absurdity of everything around it. likewise, eggbug is constantly plotting the next crime while simultaneously carrying our messages everywhere and I applaud them for that)

yes this is an extremely important point!! My partner and I were just sitting there in awe of the craft involved in taking a little low-poly doodlehopper and making it the beloved central character of a sprawling storyline.
