do the etymologists know why pspspsps is the friend word? if I meet an alien should I say it to them
I think it sort of sounds like a squirrel or something similar that a cat might want to eat?
so it very much depends if those aliens like to hunt squirrels
my personal guess is that since cats can hear frequencies too high-pitched for us to detect their hearing is weighted further in that direction, and those noises are fairly high pitched as well, so they respond to them because they can hear and locate them pretty easily. that's also part of why using a high pitched voice/falsetto or a name with an β¨iβ© or β¨Ιͺβ© sound in it will be more likely to get them to respond when you use it
so i suppose depends on which frequencies are within the auditory spectrum of the aliens in questions
Is there a source for this I wanna read more I love linguistics stuff like this
Is this why they call it cat calling? Because it's dude's trying to call the pussy to them?
relatedly, both the egyptian word for cat and the egyptian cat breed that is likely among the oldest lineages of domestic cat are "mau"
