It's funny, I'm pretty sure you and I discovered this at almost exactly the same time! I remember being confused and surprised by it too - I tracked it down to the old StarTribes ad, but didn't know anything about Laser Lords. (I'm playing Laser Lords for the first time right now, actually)
I hope you enjoy it, I am mildly obsessed with it because its just such a cool game haha! After I found this I spent some time trying to track down anyone who worked on it (some of whom reached out to me) to find out more until I ran into a dead end. I'd still love to find anything about it someday!
