just wanted to say i started severance and it is mind-blowingly good. i'm going to try to pace myself and watch an episode every day. the contrast between the obedient happy mark at work and the deeply depressed sarcastic person he is in regular life is devastating. you can see it in his voice, his posture, the way he looks at the world and treats others. and of course there's the scene where his coldly perfect manager cynthia is angry with him and he sits at attention beneath her, genuinely framed like a dog at heel. she reminds me a lot of joyce messier.

there's also the world building. it's a very 21st century capitalist with residual socialist culture seeming world, but set in the united states. there's these very odd social values that people have, like not eating at dinner parties, found beyond anyone who works at the company or knows much about it. given the amount of realism placed on the appearance of the characters, the sterility of their homes feels less like a choice for attractive tv and more an expression of their culture. but maybe i'm wrong about that.

it seems inevitable they're going to set up the tragedy of what happens when two people fall in love at work and don't know each other in their personal life. i can't wait to see it.
