okay so
ive recently decided to attempt to catch all 289 Big Fish currently in Final Fantasy 14 and i kinda feel compelled to keep note of it so??? hi thats this. if you don't know Big Fish ive put an explanation under the break
ive caught 131 out of 289 fish so far!! ive been going for three weeks, or just about, so that's pretty good progress. the true test of patience is yet to come
Been not fishing as much as I'd like this week because there's an event on right now that I like to participate in, plus some irl stuff, so I got less fishing time in than I'd like.
I did manage to catch Lancetfish with an extremely clutch Intuition pull!! It's one of the harder fish to get, so getting so very lucky feels great.
41 to go
i would count this as about halfway there!! maybe even less. the reason is that up until now, i could really just fish whenever - there would be one or two Big Fish available, so attempts at catching them were always going. this is starting to change. im spending more time waiting around than trying to catch fish. the next attempt at one isn't until 3 hours from now and i might just be asleep then!!!
but all in all im happy to be at this point, because now it's just about remembering to log in every few days to make an attempt. it's not very time consuming.
its been fun too!!!! theres a big community surrounding this activity alone and folks are happy to share tips and commiserate when yet another fish fails to bite
the supposedly hardest fish to catch in the game is The Ruby Dragon. it spawns very infrequently. about once a week maybe. its available for 11 minutes at a time, then disappears again. sometimes for 3 days, sometimes for 16 days........................
folks have calculated the average number of spawn windows you have to participate in to catch the fish. its totally random of course, but averaged out? about 17 of them!!! thats not counting the ones you miss just by being busy or asleep because the damn thing decided to show up at 4 in the morning AAAAAAA
the reason its so hard to catch (in addition to being so rare) is that it needs another Big Fish named Ku'er to mooch off of. thats the action where you throw the fish back in, still on the line, to entice another fish. like.. you don't just need THIS Big Fish but a whole other one before that?? and how often will The Ruby Dragon actually bite?? about 2% of all attempts, not counting the times where it just steals your Ku'er and gets away anyway
small small mercy that Ku'er can mooch into itself, so you often end up 'looping' and catching Ku'er with Ku'er with another Ku'er yadda yadda. in my case they usually escape after 2 attempts, but thats one more attempt you get than if it they didn't loop
uhhhhhhhhhh thats it for now ill write up another post next week
