I'm less annoyed by her than I am by all the people who kept pointing to her and going "Wow what a complex gender! (man who looks like a woman)"

Like conceptually Girl Month was funny and the phrase itself is funny but once it became clear that this was becoming an actual transition the constant and unending focus on her turned real annoying and transmisogynistic real fast. I'm sure a few years from now she'll reflect on her behavior and what transmisogynistic tropes she leaned into and regret it, but I don't hold the same expectations of her loudest supporters.

Like I dunno, I know a lot of trans women who had a very messy transition / egg-cracking or who were awful people before and turned out much better on the other side. Even just queer people in general, like Tyler, The Creator often times do a lot of homophobic or transphobic shit before they come out because they're acting out whatever bigotry they inherited from broader society and don't know how to reckon with their own queerness. I was a huge homophobe in middle school because I KNEW I was bi and I HATED it.

Like. Besides the whole "Tricking people into thinking I'm a girl" video thing, which it sounds like was an editor or friend or something naming the videos without her approval, I'm just.

Frustrated that she got so much support from the jump, purely because she was pretty. If she was doing "girl month" for the last few years and was ugly during it, or even just average? I suspect that the reception would've been very, very different. It just... Sucks to see how much of our support is contingent on how fuckable people find us.

And, like. Yes, this is jealousy. I wish I could have the kind of support and kindness that she got during exploration. It feels unfair that everything is so hard for so many of us, just because it all doesn't come quite so naturally.

f1nn5ter didnt come out as a trans woman actually, he came out as genderfluid + uses any pronouns :) gf and i watched the coming out video together. id agree that f1nn has posted some questionable content in the past but has always apologized when they’ve misstepped. and i hope f1nn isn’t unfairly blamed for any weird reactions his fans have had to her gender presentation in the past when they’re just a mostly normal 23 year old like all the rest of us just trying to work out life’s messy struggles, like queerness and identity. the only difference is that he happens to have a large platform.
