I plugged my headphones into the sound card of the late 90s computer to see if it worked. It works ... perhaps a bit too well actually
With the volume slider maxed out, not only will it make my headphones function as speakers so loud I don't need them on my head, but there is also noise/sound/interference from components inside the PC like the hard drive and the most interesting kind of sound: stuff being drawn on the screen
I'm still waiting for the new video card for this machine, which should hopefully speed up UI and 3D related stuff a lot (they don't call it 3D acceleration for nothing). I recorded a long video of the pc's current performance so I can compare it in the future, and this video is a cut of all the interesting sounding parts of it.
The most striking sounds come from stuff being drawn to the screen, but you can also hear the CPU working during rendering, and the muffled low frequency sounds coming from the HDD reading stuff.
