The thing about me is that I love puzzle games

The other thing about me is that I hate puzzle games

If I start playing a puzzle game, my brain will spontaneously combust into flames and become unable to function. The only thing I can do is play aforementioned puzzle game until I eventually get sick of some other mechanics (usually a free to play mobile game with a shit energy system and sometimes even "story") or I genuinely cannot proceed because I can't figure out the solution (Professor Layton series, etc.). There was a period of time in my life when Wario's Woods came out on the Switch Online library, and remembering it from the NES emulation on Animal Crossing (Gamecube), I played it all the time if I wasn't at my day job. Those kinds of puzzle games are the most dangerous for me; if part of the game is skill and I can reasonably get better, faster, stronger at it, I will keep playing it. That is a threat. I beat all 100 levels of Wario's Woods A Mode and even then I was not satisfied.

Baba Is You And Danger (for me). It is both overwhelmingly simple and frustratingly complex. I will scream and gnash my teeth in frustration because the answer is not immediate. I will indulge in the rush of dopamine upon seeing the level complete screen. "One more level," I tell myself, "one more level." Insert picture of "I've had Baba for a day and a half" meme here. I've technically owned a copy of Baba Is You on itch.io for at least a year now, and I've never played it until yesterday because I knew this would happen. I knew I'd be glued to the screen, utterly transfixed on that little white blob moving around on the screen. It's over for me.

BáiYù Is Baba. Baba Is You. We Are Legion.

Please Help.

in reply to @baiyu's post:

I could suggest becoming a software developer, even as a hobbyist, as an inoculation from the trap of this specific genre of game.

But then you've got the trap of writing software until 3 in the morning. At least most programming languages have free tools once you have the hardware you need.

I do a bit of coding on the side so Baba itches that logic side of my brain plenty. If I didn't have to drive so early in the morning tomorrow, I'd probably be playing it.

Gotta set some timers to space out the amount of time I relax...
