COME, NEREVAR, COME. COME READ ABOUT THE exciting release of the latest OpenMorrowind version!

Big news! Love to see it! So many HUGE milestones in this release! Better fog! Post-processing! HUGE changes to how Distant Objects are handled (massive FPS improvements no matter how you play the game, but now, built-in distant objects!), big animation improvements, navmesh caching (improved loadtimes for longer playsessions) huge quality of life improvements like world-map zooming, and finally no longer needing to manually edit the openmw.cfg to register archives!

A HUGE list of mod compatibility improvements, including some of the biggest projects around, and some of the best mods out there!

Not to mention - OpenMW Lua scripting is finally in! The Great De-Hardcoding begins ahead of schedule! MWSE-Lua scripts are not compatible with this system, and never will be, sadly, BUT OpenMW-Lua intends to reach feature parity w/ MWSE-Lua, and hopefully eventually replace it outright as the go-to choice for advanced Morrowind mod scripting. Plus, OpenMW-Lua is built with multiplayer support in mind! It's not much atm, but it's growing!

This is exceptionally exciting, one of the biggest leaps in improvements for OpenMorrowind to date. Even though these features have been accessible via the nightly builds, a full release has a very important bonus:

TES3MP - the multiplayer plugin that is built, effectively, into OpenMW, that allows for the game to be played with friends in various ways, only updates with full releases of OpenMW. I've been SO keen to play multiplayer modded Morrowind with my partner, but I've been waiting for all the big performance improvements of the 0.48 line to come to release (especially the new distant objects system!) And now, it's here! Give it a month or two for TES3MP to update, and Morrowind Modding Fever will strike me again!

(Oh god. Baldur's Gate 3, Armored Core 6, Starfield, and a bunch of other shit coming in the next two months... Hell yes.)

in reply to @balketh's post:

Ever since I discovered it, OpenMW has been the only way I play Morrowind. I know the original can be brought up to par, but the snappiness and the modernisation of the internal systems of OpenMW has lead to improvements that simply cannot be had in original anymore.

Multiplayer is still a bit odd, b/c how quests and aggro are handled are still not intuitive or easily configurable, so it's not an ideal setup yet, but hopefully it will grow with this release!

fuck yes it is

imagine how cool it'll be when they get Oblivion/Skyrim and maybe some of the Fallouts integrated (that's the goal, basically; a modernized rebuild of gamebryo that isn't shiiiiiiiiit)
