Why must I be whipped back and forth across the continent to ask someone a question? Just after a linkpearl was used to convey information?
Galls me, sometimes, the gil-or-time-grinding filler they'll cram into the in-between spaces of this game. And yes, I know it's better than it ever was in the past, but still. Sheesh.
EDIT: "sIr Vainctoroix can fuck right off. Yeesh. Fuckin' fundie asshats in Ishgard.
It's for the Botanist MSQ in HW. Whipping back to a minor annoyance of a run in Old Gridania (New, then Old, then running... Like, move the fucking mini-aethyrite, seriously), just to ask the Guild Botanist a single question, then careening back across the aether to Cloudtop, then Foundation, then Cloudtop, then Foundation. Yes, many times have me carting single mcguffins back and forth, sure, but still. At least ping them over linkpearl, have them tell me "I have just the thing! Come by ASAP!", and then it feels much less contrived than the objective "Speak With [Name] at [Half-Way-Across-The-Continent]".
Reminds me of the same problem in pretty much any world setting with magic, such as D&D (5e). Communication and Logistics are paramount to society, military, everything, right?
So why the fuck is the Sending spell 3rd level still? Why is it limited to 25 words and one reply? Why is the Message cantrip limited to 120ft, but not limited by line-of-sight or word count? The item, Sending Stones, again, only one use per day in the whole set?
Sorry, are these new to the setting? (AFAIK, yes, in edition terms, but not 'quite' in the world's timeline?), because if they're not, these would absolutely be the focus of at least someone's life, improving them to the point of wide-spread usability within a relatively short order. It's undoubtedly to conform to the Forever-Incorrectly-Medieval nature of the setting, but I don't think modern concepts of technology and life would actually prevent medieval aesthetics and systems; I think 'Medieval Fantasy With Modern-Style Magic Tech' is still an entirely different genre to 'Modern World Urban Fantasy With Magic' as a genre.
This absolutely keeps bringing me back to the whole 'Fantasy Worlds Are Mostly Written By And About Neurotypicals', b/c I keep saying, if anyone were afflicted with hyperfocus or Special Interest in these settings, there would be archanotechnical leaps and bounds of development in extremely short order. But that's another chost, IMO.
