Not spoilers, but...
That's the... The map from Treasure Planet, right?
I'm not the only one that immediately recognized the strong resemblance to the map orb?
The only element that's not there is the green light, honestly. Thankfully, I love Treasure Planet, so... Win for me!
Also, I love the medieval-ass designs of Baylan and Shin, and Marrok's helmet and fencing-rapier-ass style. It's SUCH a good touch. Makes them feel IMMEDIATELY older and out of place, even in contrast to the older and out of place bakelite-plastic-ass lookin' sheen the 'New Republic' has on it. It's such a good juxtaposition - they really are knights from a bygone era, it's so dope.
Slight spoiler criticism under the jump. <3
Morgan Elsbeth being a Dathomiri Witch descendant, having shown no previous (IIRC) connection in The Mandalorian, going straight to 'A stronghold of the Dathomiri Witches, on this planet that is very much not Dathomir.
I uh, I know they're cool, I love Dathomir, I love all the cool shit around it, but... They were powerful witches on a fucked up planet. What do you mean ancient thousands-plus year old stronghold. That's a hell of a leap to make for these witches that are so very much from this one world to have ancient strongholds in the galaxy. They should maybe have a name that isn't [Homeworld], if they've been around this long, y'know?
Like, I get that Mandalorians were named after Mandalore, a person at one point, but that person was quickly morphed into an ideal, which can survive moving planets. But when your thing is your planet... And you go to another planet, or, in fact, many... It lacks sufficient versimilitude to say they would still be known as Dathomiri Witches, and not some other, more widely applicable title.
Also, HK-47 is spinning in his fucking droid grave at how awful these new-era HK models are. Absolute garbage. Thankful that they're even here, mind you, because HK-47 is an amazing character and I'd love to see some relevance for him, beyond this name-drop.
Huyang's also cool, though I wish they leaned harder into the fact that he's literally twenty five thousand years old.
Looking forward to more.
RIP Ray Stevenson. He's brilliant in this. Been loving his NotSith DarkJedi vibes in this. He plays Evil-But-Still-A-Knight so well.
