RIP Cohost 2024. You were the best social media site to have ever been done. Long live eggbug. If you're seeing this in the future, on some archive, be kind to others. It's the only way things get better.

Oh, no, PureDark's gonna put hidden mines in his modifications of another person's work as a form of DRM - mods that others can also freely make with no repercussions, as seen by that one dude who remade the DLSSG mod for free.

Woe. It's not like one person couldn't just... IDK... Subscribe, then compare the """permanently""" unlocked version with the regular to find the """hidden mines""", and... Remove them.

How the hell does someone like PureDark not know how vehement the Scene is?

What's he gonna do when people blow through any shitty DRM he adds? Put Denuvo on his mods?

Fucking fool, honestly.

"It was expected since it was something I put together within a day or two, but I did get enough patrons so it's done its job. So from now on I will place hidden mines in all my mods to make it harder for these people. They might be able to find and bypass some of them, but they will never know if they have found all of them. The cracked mods will sometimes work, sometimes fail, sometimes work but [be] very wonky, sometimes even crash and they won't even know if it's a bug or just them using the cracked version, and they will never have the support I've been always providing to my subscribers."

Clearly PureDark didn't see the recent Manhunt Rockstar DRM video - people make spectacle of hunting for this shit.

Well, it's not just a graphics mod. PureDark is the guy who made the FPS unlocks for Dark Souls/Bloodborne/etc, IIRC. Taking all of Bloodborne from 30FPS to 60FPS without fucking up the iframes is HUGE work, tbf.

DLSS is also a performance mod, which is important for Starfield, because of how bad it looks with FSR2 performance mode, and how shittily it runs in general.

The only flaw being that it's limited to specific hardware, which is dogshit, but it's very clearly gonna be the future tech for improving, on the one hand, graphics, but on the other, performance for older hardware, which is huge to me, so.

OK, I admit it was a flippant comment.

I wrote like 6K words about the flaws of Starfield without mentioning visuals once, I think, so no amount of technical modding is going to make that game good for me :D

Again, lmao at PureDark.

Appreciate the reconsidering, but also

Hard agree. No amount of deep learning or supposedly "super" sampling is gonna move the people models out of their hidden bunker deep in the Uncanny Valley.

And good job getting through three whole Reddit posts worth of writing about Starfield's flaws without mentioning graphics.

Lords know, Starfield fucking deserves it. Will be interesting to read!

I grew up under conditions where 30fps was the maximum achievable dream.

I never had issues with Mount&Blade visuals.

I'm just jaded about deep technological magic talk.

But yes, I had to set the game from Medium to High because the NPCs just looked too ugly to bear. Did not notice a performance drop lol.

It is, however, the first Beth game I played that had the Bethesda memes level of bugs.

The irony of it being their 'most bugless launch' was palpable before it even released.

And yeah, IIRC from DF's look, High is great for most settings except for things like Shadows and one or two other settings.

Weirdly, Ultra has almost no visual difference to High, and Medium-High in most cases has very little difference either, save those few standout issues.

Low has at least one entirely bugged setting that causes things to look like trash, but yeah.

I too grew up under 30FPS conditions.

But I guess I grew out of it. I see the frametime spikes. I notice the input latency. Even 40FPS is still too low nowadays. I really do have a better time at 60FPS minimum w/ no frametime spikes, even on old games I loved at 30.

It's just an objectively better experience, regardless of graphics.
