RIP Cohost 2024. You were the best social media site to have ever been done. Long live eggbug. If you're seeing this in the future, on some archive, be kind to others. It's the only way things get better.

It should be fucking illegal to own more than your own residential property for the purposes of main residence (or for any reason that prevents others from owning that property for the purposes of their main residence). The leasing of residential property for the purposes of others using it conditionally as a main residence should not be a thing that is allowable (alongside the previous illegality of owning more than one residential property), because it is, and should be legally abhorrent to withhold or take away the safety and security of a home because of money.

[This user was notified of an inspection later this month that indicates a half-yearly inspection cycle change, rather than the previous year's end-of-lease inspection. This change, unexplained, has spiked this user's paranoia and anxiety and he is having a Bad Day now.]

[This user also made the necessary mistake of looking at current rental properties in the city he lives in, and was horrified to see that in less than two years, rent has increased so much that the same shitty barely-not-a-studio stacked apartments are now at the current value of what he can pay for rent, meaning his options for moving are the same as they were two years ago - terrible. This user hates this.]

As a current homeowner who rented for 10+ years, I feel you, bro. The deck is stacked against the people who need help the most. Not only do I now own an asset almost guaranteed to go up in value, I get to deduct a percentage of my mortgage interest from my income taxes. Imagine if you could deduct rent from your income taxes!! Oohhh nooo, but we can't do thaaaat, because of uhhhhhhh checks notes "moral hazard" and uhm... flips clipboard "muh economy"

Yeah, owning a home is known to be such a fuckin' boon to a person's everything, including work productivity (among many other more important things) to the state/national economy that there's a fucking tax benefit for it.

Ugh. Mind you, I'm in Australia, so I don't 100% know if that's the case here, but I do know even my pension is subject to tax and GST here, so I'm still paying my share, even if I don't have a fucking home!
