RIP Cohost 2024. You were the best social media site to have ever been done. Long live eggbug. If you're seeing this in the future, on some archive, be kind to others. It's the only way things get better.

The one IRL friend that invited me to their FC left it today; the FC didn't fold, but I literally knew no one else there, and the buffs weren't even on half the time anyway, so I bounced too. The one thing they helped me through (thankful) was ages ago, and I haven't asked for help again since - despite needing it b/c queues for DPS are like 30mins unless I'm specifically on right during reset - I haven't done Abyssal Fracture yet, and 6.58 comes out This Month!! BLEGH.

So really, the only thing keeping me on the OCE is the ping. Which... Is fine? The ping is fine? 34ms is nice, but ability queueing makes it matter less. But it would matter more if I were doing anything that required say, positional timing, ala raids/statics/etc.

Moving (back) to an NA DC would increase my chances of doing content that requires that somewhat. My ping on NA is 190, pretty locked, which is something. I don't feel any issues when playing in a low-level sense, but I've not encountered a lot of AOEs yet at that level, so that might make a big difference. I've heard 200ms is pretty much the limit for like, possibility of accessing higher level group content, so I might still be okay.

And there are quite a few people keen to see me on NA servers too. Just hanging out on the low-level ping-testing alt (a lala-fied version of my Au Ra boy), like four people server hopped and tracked me down unprompted, just to say hi. I kept getting pings in Discord with 'SPOTTED' screenshots XD

It would also give me access to more of the generally active FFXIV populace. OCE is good, but it's... Not quite thumping enough for me to find my little niche.

So, yeah. It's on the cards. I think.

We're in the same boat, but I'm currently stuck on EU and wanting to move to NA but I have a house : ( So many of the ffxiv peeps on cohost are on crystal and I feel like that one squidward meme of him looking out the window watching them play xD Im trying to get enough gil so i can rebuy the house and then swap over before DT drops!

Honestly I played on NA for a year while I was going through SHB content (I swapped for nicer ping but EU servers are so much less populated that queuing for higher end stuff sucks so bad) The higher ping didnt make content impossible there are just little quirks you might have to pay attention. My biggest issues were; very rarely my 1-2-3 Combo didnt correctly proc, so I had to restart it, or I missed an effect I was planning on happening and I had to start leaving Orange as early as possible to avoid any weird position clipping- it never caused me too big of an issue once i learnt to pay a little more attention to these and if you end up with a group of friends to run higher content with instead of randos (which sounds like you already have that covered), your ping issues should be easy enough for everyone to work around and accommodate :D

if you do choose to move I would 100% reccommend doing it before we get close to DT just to make sure you miss the influx of new characters and other movers and so you can get the server you want most!

Yeah those are pretty much my exact concerns, minus the house - never bothered. XD

I'm a bit used to it though? Like as an AUS player, I'm used to that kind of lag in MMOs, feels 'right' I guess. I cut my teeth pings far worse than 190, so making that adjustment for AOEs isn't out of my reach.

I'm a bit of a button spammer (thanks WoW) so I'm not too worried about missing combo progression - I played for a while on NA before moving and don't remember having issues then.

I doubt I'll ever be progging or doing the kind of content synced that requires that level of precision that 190 will ever really concern me.

But you are ABSOLUTELY right as hell about moving before DT. Now is the perfect time. Damn. Hm.

Do note that the housing situation in the NA datacenters is pretty dire. I considered moving to the new Dynamis half-size datacenter to get a house — it’s essentially the “suburbs” of NA, where people live but “commute” to a busier datacenter to actually play — but even there the housing is full. Meanwhile on Crystal/Mateus (where I live, one of the more populous servers), we have 5-10 applicants for each of the Small houses available per lottery, and 80-100 for each Medium. In other words, even if you have the gil for a house, getting one may be a struggle.

At least apartments are still fairly available. Most apartment buildings are completely full, but Ishgard had plenty of vacancies when I got one a year and a half ago.
