I think it's ultimately a desire to simply be able to Do The Thing I Want/Need To Do To Make/Repair/Manifest This Thing, Right Now, With No Obstacles. Perfection is some version of Mr Silver's cyborg arm (Treasure Planet), or some other kind of 'instant-access-brain-controlled-all-use-tool-set-but-also-usable-hand/arm' sitch. Set me up like a fucking Adeptus Mechanicus (Warhammer40k) Tech Priest with 3-4 arms and HUD goggles and shit.
But like, also, I LOVE the idea of opening a box and finding its contents both perfectly and optimally organised AND fully visible and instantly accessible. Anything from full toolkits ala medicine chests or all-in-one miniature figure painting stations, or like old flintlock firearm display boxes, or the trope of the sniper with the briefcase and all the parts in cutout inserts, etc.
Do you also have Executive Dysfunction? A life of torture so profound both Prometheus and Sisyphus look down at you in pity? Wherein you constantly yearn for the perfect and optimal in the entropically doomed? Do you also have a whole-ass space (room, garage, life, etc) filled with shit that needs organising but you simply cannot get around to it? Same. :/
What's your favourite organisational object/setup? French cleat wall of tools? Foam insert box/other specialised storage case? Server racks? Fold-out make-up box? Those gravity-movement drink can/pantry can storage racks that you can fill from the top and they roll down, back, drop, and roll forward again? Show me! Tell me! Especially if it's uncommon!
