y'know, survey marks. they're objects ranging from

  • little rounded metal pegs with some numbers on them, to
  • A STAR PICKET DRIVEN TO REFUSAL ENCASED IN CONC COLLAR, to
  • just a tree lmao

if it's an object, and that object won't move (pawbs crossed), then you can take some accurate measurements of its position and elevation and call it a survey mark.

AND SO all of these are in a big database that gets updated as surveyors go back to previously installed marks, check if they're still there, and update the position and elevation if they want.

mark location is "very very very" approximate, and no faith whatsoever should be placed in its position, as when you see the CSS, there is nothing to locate it by except the shape of the road pattern!!!

Sketch was never drawn by installing surveyor - was originally a photo point in cleared area, Don't bother chasing surveyor or Comapany for sketch 13-7-05.

This mark is now within an Army Artillery range and may be destroyed There is a possibility of unexploded ordnance in the area, check with Range Control Officer before occupation GMS 31/4/95

DNR visit 30-06-99 PM not directly available for horiz obs & not available for vert obs An historic 6" gun has been replaced over the mark. The gun is as large as a room. Cat zero for GPS with gun in place

Mark is located in front of Bougianvillea plant at 370 Forestry Rd - Bluewater. (Watch for thorns as it overhangs the mark) - 12-10-2010.

myrtle ck bridge, bruchwy, proserpine-bowen Clear for GPS but poor for tripod set up unless a special tripod rig is used vide maintenance form. not suitable for static gps vide maintenance form. opp gunna go caravan park. PM suited to GNSS, clear for GPS (only some trees on North side) but poor for tripod setup (edge of old bridge remains) vide maintenance form dated 13/09/2022.

No longer suited to DNRM. Requires maintenance. Mark has always beeen solid and significant before it was noted as gone 08/08/2014. It will be very difficult to replace mark with one of similar quality. Before its demise, provided many years of good service to the profession and the public of Queensland. In the future, will be able to electronically lodge this form due to the dedicated work of the mark.

and a sad but sweet one to end on

Mark is Stainless Steel Bolt & numbered Stainless Steel Collar in top of headstone for Paul Carl Bielenberg. SP186727 was the last cadastral survey effected by Paul Carl Bielenberg who died in a helicopter crash on 21 Feb 2006. His ashes are buried in the Gregory cemetery & this mark is placed on the top centre of the headstone.
