I still actively use Last.fm, which means I get tasty stats to play with. Omnomnom.
So here's my most listened albums of last month. (Image generated using https://www.tapmusic.net/)
It wasn't actually the most active of months for me, music wise. I've spent most of the time catching up with the glut of podcast episodes that came from the recent MaxFunDrive and my Star Trek review shows rising from the hiatus grave.
The new(ish) stuff
I'm really enjoying The Longest Johns' newest album Voyage still. Folk and shanty music just has such a boppy and communal vibe to it by its nature. It's good at feeling good without even trying.
Also high up is Build Something Better by Grace Petrie, another (more modern) folk musician who heavily sings about LGBTQ+ and political topics.
Also new here are Mountainhead by Everything Everything, Gloom Division by IDKHOW, Hyperdrama by Justice and The Kaiser Chief's Easy Eighth Album by, well, the Kaiser Chiefs.
Each of them has one or two tracks that are standout to me ("Cold Reactor", "iDIOTS OF Oz", "The End" and "The Job Centre Shuffle" respectively) but I've still not formulated a overall thoughts on the albums as a whole just yet.
The holdouts
I really like Ben Folds. I'm not sure I could pin down exactly why, even, but I've long been an appreciator of piano rock and he has a very self-aware musical persona—the middle-aged, dorky, white guy who's somehow a rock musician—that I personally find fun.
Daft Punk makes a lot of appearances here too. Since new works from them are rather unlikely at this point (sans the odd archive and remix releases) I've been making a semi-conscious effort to listen to their entire catalogue, rather than just only picking out a couple of favourites from each album.
Daði Freyr's first album I Made An Album is probably going to keep appearing a lot. I just adore Daði's wholesome songs and surreal aesthetic. Listening to pretty much anything from this album gets me in a good mood.
Also here is a lot of clipping. I didn't even feel like I listened to that much clipping. I also have no idea how Slamilton (a Hamilton/Space Jam mashup album) keeps appearing so highly in my listens. Maybe I sleepwalk every night and play basketball to it??
