What the actual fuck guys

And to release this in 2024 makes this product arguably worse because it means they're ideological diehards instead of just the usual kind of vacuous bandwagon tech idiots

Bitcoin is a child's idea of financial freedom, and I don't want fucking children running my cloud services.

(And ideology aside, attaching shit like this to Proton accounts makes them a juicier target for hackers and phishers and the whole ecosystem is going to be intrinsically less safe. Thanks!)

Amy Castor and David Gerard go into further detail as to why Proton Wallet is stupid, and why Bitcoin doesn't even do what they claims it does:

What Proton is making is very specifically a bitcoin wallet, not any other crypto. Bitcoin does not have privacy. The Feds love dumb crooks using bitcoin because every action on the blockchain is completely traceable forever — once you crack one bitcoin address your suspect touched, you have them nailed. Imagine the value of a list of bitcoin addresses matched to Proton Mail addresses.

The post is not just written in crypto pumper language — it’s specifically from a bitcoin maximalist. These are the ideologically committed original bitcoiners who believe that all other cryptocurrencies are only used by infidels and traitors to the one true light of Satoshi Nakamoto, father of bitcoin, who surely believed precisely whatever they believe.

in reply to @cainoct's post:

I mean, to be completely fair you could just not use the wallet and your security wouldn't change at all? But it is concerning ideologically. Unfortunately a lot of the privacy-conscious community really likes crypto because they've been successfully fooled into thinking it is somehow more private than traditional banks.
