Currently pondering a "damage threshold" system for the size RPG project (if you take more than X damage lose 1 hp, if less than X damage lose no hp/get staggered instead) and it's bringing to mind questions of materials.
There's lots of cool real world armors across time and space (see here for a cool bunch of types: https://middenmurk.blogspot.com/2015/09/body-armour.html) but now I'm thinking of what different size critters would have avaliable for their own armors...
For Bigs
- Rhino/hippo/elephant hide
- Shaped wooden planks (like ship hulls)
- Mud/clay brick mail/scale
- Fantasy glass/ceramic nonsense
For Smalls
- Snail/crustacean shell
- Insect chitin
- Thick wool/cotton padded jacket
- Drilling holes in a coin to use as a shield
- Spiked armor made of animal quills or plant thorns
For really big:
- punch your arms through the windows of a house and stand up
- you're a mech now
OF COURSE HOW COULD I FORGET
