I was surprised to read that an N64 version got so far in development before getting cancelled, it would have been really interesting to play that port!

anybody who thinks of the original meaning for spit-roast first is lying, it's 2024 and you're absolutely lying.
I thought of the original meaning of spit roast first. i didn't even know there was a sexual definition until reading these comments.
How did they get away with that, there's no way someone didn't notice???
It's possible that it wasn't slang yet in 1998, but I'm not sure how to check that
In the wake of Chasing Amy I find that hard to believe
Cooking meat by shoving a skewer though it lengthwise and rotating it above a fire. Even with the rest of the ad’s text this doesn’t really make sense, since you don’t attack the other trainer in a link cable pokemon battle??
What could be better than having your very own creature to raise? Okay, how about 150 of them? With Pokémon the idea is to capture, raise and train your own album of Pokémon characters. Each with its own personality and weapons. Then use your Game Boy Game Link® cable to trade and battle with friends. Collect and train all 150 and you too can become a master Pokémon trainer. And a darn fine chef.
yeah exactly like even the normal nonsexual meaning doesn't make sense
truly this is the "if you seek amy" of pokemon ads
I'm thinking back to how trash talk was back then, especially in sports and "kid friendly with attitude." A lot of references to cooking someone, barbecuing them on a grill, etc. It's basically "watch 'em kick your friend's ass like it's no big deal."
Sometimes you get cooked in a match; sometimes it's more specific than that
I'm increasingly learning just HOW much marketing gets to do whatever they want a distressing amount of time
