a quirk of my psyche is that I HATE cliffhangers. particularly emotionally wrenching cliffhangers where the wellbeing of a character/a world/whatever is at stake. I also hate "to be continued..."s that leave off on a depressing note, even if there's a promise that things will get better.

I totally get why people are into emotional rollercoasters, but I'm just like, fuck that! I spend enough of my daily life being worried for the wellbeing of my friends and the fate of the world! if I'm escaping into fantasy, it better be a fantasy where I can go slap a bitches to make things better, and I want to slap them NOW.

ffxiv has traditionally been good about the first part of that (letting you slap a bitches to make things better (it's kind of the warrior of light's whole deal)) but the patch format is not so great for the "and let me go slap that bitches RIGHT NOW" part. it's partly why I've dragged my feet on doing the 6.X stuff and unless it somehow doesn't end on a cliffhanger or darkest-before-dawn note, it'll probably be why I drag my feet on 6.4 as well.

which is a shame, because I would love to do the new trial on the day of release... and also the extreme...

anyway, looking forward to watching y'all lose your minds over Stuff from the sanctity of my splendorous fishing hole and/or crafting bench. I might not be able to join my pals yet but MAYBE, if I haul ass on these relics, I can help get them geared...

in reply to @bazelgeuse-apologist's post:

It belatedly occurs to me that I am probably harnessing my object permanence, specifically the lack thereof, to slam out MSQ on patch day and then trust that no matter how cliffhanger-y it was/wasn't, something shiny will bounce past and the entire topic FLIES OUT OF MY HEAD.

Alternatively if I need some catharsis too badly I will stagger over to AO3 and scroll until sated. Even when MSQ writers are evil maybe someone will have 60k of our favorite catboy holding hands with $CHARACTER_OF_CHOICE....

Flashbacks to some of the ShB patches where I got far enough ahead to hold a friend's hand as they internally screamed through the stress, cheering them on with the vaguest possible reassurances I could devise to avoid spoilers but confirm that they WOULD feel good with where it went and how it turned out... definitely best done with someone who knows your story enjoyment Vibes™ and has some idea of what bits you do/don't wanna know, but I strongly suspect I'm not the only one who's helped out like that!

This makes me feel a lot better about not being up to date on my patch MSQ, and I do realise that it's probably gonna be more fun in both short and long term to enjoy levelling my crafters, and then spend my days enjoying fishing when all is said and done.
