It's a horrible day on the Internet, and you are a lovely geuse.

once again going "man it would be neat if we used our Coding Powers to build something for plural folks," but once again we are realizing that our ability to actually follow through on this desire hinges entirely upon whether we ourselves would actually use the thing we built enough to justify the effort of building (and maintaining) it

and so far, for everything we can think of, the answer is a resounding "eh. nah." or "we have that already, it's called [unrelated app that we've juryrigged to suit our purposes]" :eggbug-pensive:

  • switch-tracking app that instead of having you log When people switch in or out, functions like a microjournal where people make entries when something of note happens and mark who was at front when it happened (actually neat concept that we wish we had the motivation to build but currently don't. it's mostly because we have zero experience making apps and learning is harder than doing more of something we already know)

  • "personal CRM"/relationship tracker where individual headmates can write down things they did with other people in and out of the system ("we have that already, it's called a diary")

  • plural-centric social media (no, no, fuck managing social media, and no)

  • chat app like Discord but specifically for your system, with a nicer interface than Antar and an option to be local-only/have encrypted sync unlike Simply Plural (the one we're most likely to use, but we still do most of our conversation internally and Just Deal with Antar's interface when we don't)

  • something like PluralKit for Matrix or IRC, would probably involve custom client shenanigans (this would require so much learning for something that would see so little use while Discord continues to live)

  • headmate profile generator for Neocities sites that generates something similar to our roster page (will not use this but would take the least effort to make and is therefore most likely to be made)

  • "we just made a new PluralKit proxy and need an avatar" site that gives you a random pre-cropped photo of a Creature that you can use (again, will not use this but would not take much effort to make)

  • image hosting site for people to host their PluralKit proxy avatars (this would be useful for a lot of people with Discord changing how its CDN works, but oh my god, the cost in terms of money and moderation effort and keeping shit from being hacked and all the avatars replaced with dicks or gore)

in reply to @bazelgeuse-apologist's post:

I use an android app called "Mytter", which is like a local stripped down Twitter clone. You can make profiles for everyone with avatars. It's free with ads, $5 to remove ads, and completely local. Its reply threading is not great but we work around it if we wanna talk to each other through it. The dev makes a similar app that's more of a local chat clone with the same idea? Something to check out if you're interested! :)
