OKAY SEE HERE'S THE THING, as much as people meme about glare mage and MAH PARSE, at level 90 on WHM you do so much fucking incidental healing just from using your lilies and oGCDs wisely. like here's someone's P9S reclear, you can see that the WHM hardly uses Cure III/Medica II/etc outside of covering for people's mistakes

that means you don't lose damage uptime by healing! lilies are a full refund on your missed Glare casts! (and then some if you can use blood lily under raid buffs!) (and like, keeping people alive should take higher priority anyway because if a DPS dies their weakness debuff is a far bigger damage loss than you not casting Glare. but anyway)

I am just losing my fucking mind because my cohealer just came back from trying to reclear P9S in Party Finder and told me a horror story about a WHM who wasn't healing. Like. The party's health sat at 20% most of the time and he was barely getting people back up before raidwides by spamming the hell out of Succor. And I am just like how the fuck is that even possible, were they just not using lilies? how do you go into savage on WHM and not know to use lilies? do they seriously think optimal WHM play means ONLY casting Glare and never using a GCD for healing, not even your lilies??? no, that can't possibly be it, if you're playing WHM at this level you SURELY have to know better--

(no, Phos, sometimes people just suck at their jobs. it's really that simple)

so as someone who's still 50 on WHM, are lilies basically the equivalent of Addersgall (something we're also telling ourselves "USE THESE MORE DUMBASS" more frequently)

Yes but even simpler. Adders# mechanics absolutely feel to me like the devs working on SGE went "hmm, lily mechanic has promise, but we need to advance it beyond kindergartener-tier difficulty."

(I say this lovingly because I enjoy WHM being very very simple, but it is indeed very very simple and all the other healers have a lot more mental overhead.)

Basically yes. Lilies are GCD rather than OGCD like Addersgall, but every third Lily you spend, you get a ~Blood Lily~ that powers a very strong attack. That’s the damage refund being referred to. There are a couple other differences, but Lilies, Addersgall, and a Scholar’s Aetherflow are all closely analogous.

The hard, fast and oft-repeated advice for healing in FFXIV given to newbs is, from my experience, "use your oGCD heals to keep the party up unless something goes wrong". Some advice tacks on or even replaces the second part with "or you're a bad healer", either implicitly or directly. And this is just... class-agnostic

You just need them to trash-talk all their past PF groups and extensively complain about how bad PF players are and voila, you'll have some kind of very terrible bingo.

I wish I could sit you down with the WHM I got a couple months ago who only used their lilies out of combat, and barely healed in combat
