@jeroknite asked:

So I'm fairly new to ff14, and I just unlocked my first job (WHM), and I've noticed that when I have max level, I will have way more Buttons to press than I have room on my cross hotbar (I'm playing with controller because it feels nicer to me, and maybe mouse and keyboard have more hotbar space idk), and I'm wondering how I'm expected to deal with that. Are some spells obsoleted by others later on, or am I expected to do the clunky thing and use every single one and switch hot bars in certain situations? Sorry if this is like a basic bitch question or something, but I want to make sure I'm still a good healer (making sure no one dies) still when I level up more

I'm gonna offer the controller question to the tags - there's definitely enough room for all of the WHM buttons on controller, but I don't remember how you toggle the extra slots as I don't play on controller myself. (Edit: Thank you, Grace!)

Re: spells being obsoleted, it's generally safe to remove Cure 1 and Medica 1 from your bar once you get Cure 2 and Medica 2. There's only two situations in which you would want them after unlocking the upgrades:

  • You're almost out of mana but need to heal (you will almost never be in this situation if you're only doing normal content and also not running best-in-slot, which means you'll more than likely have a fuckton of extra piety)
  • You queue for leveling roulette and get like, Sastasha.

(FREECURE IS A TRAP. DO NOT SPAM CURE 1 TO PROC FREECURE. JUST USE CURE 2 WHEN YOU HAVE IT.)

You are also not going to need Repose in 99% of content (the 1% is deep dungeon solo), and Rescue is, IMO, for trolling your friends rather than something you actually use on a regular basis.

Also, in case you weren't aware, all of the different Stone spells upgrade into each other and then Glare (3), and same for Aero and then Dia, and ofc Holy 1 into Holy 3 because numbers are fake.

Hope that helps!
