It's a horrible day on the Internet, and you are a lovely geuse.

Three pixel stamps: a breaking chain icon in trans colors against a red background, an image of someone being booted out reading "This user is UNWELCOME at the university", and a darkened lamppost.(fallen london stamps by @vagorsol)

I'm more than a little bit intimidated by all the folks pouring in from Tumblr right now, especially since I, uh, don't vibe with the culture a lot of Tumblr has? like "my palms are sweating a bit tbh as I watch the '#welcome to cohost' tag fill up" level of intimidated

but, also: I'm remembering some things that a friend of mine who hangs out on Tumblr said when Tumblr began getting a bunch of people from Twitter, about how a bunch of people on Tumblr were like "oh no it's The Birdsite ew" and "gross we don't want your Twitter Culture stinking up our corner of the internet" and so forth, and even though a lot of it was ostensibly ""joking"" it was still actually really shitty!

and, like, idk. I don't think I'll be able to make my trepidation just Go Away, especially since I've already quietly added a bunch of people to my mute list. (and especially seeing how even a bunch of folks already on Cohost can't seem to contain their baser natures whenever Discourse rears its head.) this little corner of the internet is going to change, in one way or another. but! that was always the case, social media migrations or not, and that doesn't mean I have to be mean about it. that doesn't mean I have to start things off on the worst possible foot.

so I guess I will just continue keeping my quiet and somewhat intimidated vigil from this corner of the eggbug factory. and maybe sometimes I will say hi. I do genuinely want new folks to feel welcome.
