every so often I rotate the one AU where Lucent falls under the sway of [redacted SGE job quest NPC] and becomes his accomplice in his horrific experiments. in which a kind and impressionable young man has his enthusiasm for helping people and Science taken advantage of, and is frog-boiled into becoming as empty, amoral, and obsessive as [redacted NPC].
it's SO full of dead dove do not eat, but also: the tragedy! the catharsis! the unblinking, unceasing stare of the void of people's worst selves! sometimes you just want bad things to happen to good people
it reminds me: a few years ago, I had a big blorbOC who was basically a guy who'd sold his name, memories, everything to the fae and had mentally deteriorated to the point that he was willing to kill children at the command of his Lady
the AU of him that was dragged back to the mortal world and made some semblance of recovery was the version who I ended up developing most, in RP with friends. the dark stuff is something I like to visit, but not reside in. still, visit it I do, and dubious relationships (of all kinds) that slowly eat away at your identity and leave you a husk of yourself tend to feature at their forefront. I Guess I just feel very strongly about the ways the company we keep shapes us, for better or worse, and how easy it is to become a "there but for the grace of God I go" kind of situation
