playing Lucent in MSQ continues to be Incorrect and Uncanny, not just because he is canonically Not The WoL (he's just a guy!!!) but because all the reactions and expressions the game gives him are so lowkey and not nearly unhinged enough. he needs more wide-eyed manic grins at the very LEAST

This exact problem is why I don't wanna make a bunch of the OCs in my head in game. My main's WoL AU works because at least she's dutiful, won't quit, and has the social skills to make it through MSQ cutscenes without drop-kicking Alphinaud in ARR.

Most of these other guys though? They range from "I would be solving a lot of these problems with knives before the introductory cutscene concluded" to "my entire thing is I would be on the wrong side to start??" to, in one notable case, "I don't believe in the barbarism of hitting people with sticks. I would, however, take the Eorzean political scene by storm and eventually be manipulating everyone into doing what I want via politics, and I think I could get at least 40% of them to thank me" (Lolorito AU for this one is scary)

WHICH DON'T WORK WITH MSQ AS PRESENTED!!

As with all shounen anime, there are lots of times where the obvious solution is violence like all the other times we solved problems with violence, yet the genre slaps our wrists and says no, this is the WRONG time for violence!! A frustrating contradiction inherent to the artform. :eggbug-pensive:

(On reflection, one of the OCs I'm thinking of is very Solve Problems With Knives but has also dualspecced into gitting gud at political structures, AKA looking immaculate as they throw bad guys under a bus. Surface-level looks a bit Alphinaud-esque, even. So ostensibly that one might fit into the WoL Hat a little less poorly than the rest... except that I'm very attached to the worldbuilding I did and they're extremely off-model from default player characters. Woe.)
