We found the current new alter guides really lackluster, so we made our own and figured we should share it here.

This is probably like, the only good resource I have seen on this topic. Shamelessly boosting!

(My only addendum would be to not use a notes app for your important passwords. Use a password manager instead! Many of those can even autofill passwords on your behalf, saving any potential new headmate the recursive issue of having to Know the master password in order to get at your other passwords.

I normally recommend Bitwarden, but I'm not sure how good their autofill is... Proton Pass is newer, but Proton itself is pretty well known for its encrypted services, and its Firefox extension has been fairly painless to use.)

(This is one of the places where biometric unlocks would actually be nice... if it wasn't for the whole data collection and profiling thing. Capitalism ruins everything.)

Bitwarden's browser extension (at least on Firefox) can autofill and you can disable the vault locking so you can get into it without a password on that device (of course this means that if your device is compromised the passwords are too, but it's still better than a typical notes app). You can disable the locking on the mobile app too, and it can be unlocked with just biometrics if you're okay with using them (don't know what it's like on android, but on ios it prompts you to open it when typing in a password field).
