@vagorsol asked:

out of curiosity, have you considered acquiring other kinds of plant children (e.g., green onion), or are you basil all the way?

I actually was growing some scallions from grocery store leavings, but they got skinnier and skinnier and then just snapped in half. :c Not entirely sure what happened there, maybe I was too aggressive about peeling off the dead slimy layers?

A roommate and I are planning on planting a bunch of garlic chives at some point, though they might be more of a "toss them outside and let them do their thing" kinda deal. I DO want to get a money tree at some point, the kind with the braided trunks. I Just Think They're Neat. and maybe I'll get a pothos too, they're supposed to be easy to propagate. but OUGH, what if I ALSO got a monstera while I'm at it--

ooo, fun! my dad grows some and for the most part leaves them alone, and they do fine, so you might want to try tossing them outside with the garlic chives and seeing how that goes! (i asked him if he had any advice and he said keep the soil moist, and also chop the leaves before it gets too tall and flowers where the roots become an onion bulb and then dies (sorry for the unsolicited plant advice in advance!! ^^;))
spider plants are also easy to propagate (speaking from experience) if you're interested in any other plants to overtake your room with acquire.

I am always glad to hear about green childcare, don't worry!!

Spider plant is a good suggestion... one of my roommates got one a while back, but alas, it was in poor shape and I already had my hands full battling thrips, so I didn't get a chance to rehabilitate it. :c
