continuing from the bit about Nathan moving in with the doctor being often misinterpreted - Nathan does get asked about how his "husband" is doing, both by well-meaning folks and tittering society gossips alike. the doctor just brushes these things off but it mildly annoys Nathan. he's long since decided that he doesn't know what exactly to call his relationship with the doctor, but that he doesn't need to know - he's happy and that's what matters. now if only other people would get the memo.

(and of course, he just really doesn't appreciate it when people act like marrying the doctor would be a pitiable thing to begin with. he has nothing but the highest regard and the utmost affection for the man - both for his knowledge and his character.)

Nathan knows the doctor as the man who:

  • complains about the tyranny of the Sun but who goes out of his way to source an abundance of Surface fruits and vegetables for him, to make sure he eats right
  • has to be dragged out of his lab for dinner but will always drop what he is doing if Nathan needs something
  • stays up all night reading but makes time to help him get dressed in the mornings
  • also thinks translating a box of sunlight is a wonderful bonding activity
  • is so very sincere and unabashed in his love for everything
  • cries about the deaths of people and beings that most people wouldn't pause to consider
  • and of course, who helped him leave his old, stifling life, and asked nothing in return

but when other people look at the doctor, all they see is a raving madman.
