for the curious this is how optimized my lab is
- all equipment fully upgraded (including with Fate)
- all assistant slots fully unlocked (including with Fate)
- resident fully leveled Profound Student
- multiple experts available, including the Silk-Clad Expert and [BaL assistant]
- Correspondent (opens up a card that gives research based on SotC level) with SotC 21 (I get 40 research from that card)
- Secret College (opens up a card that gives lots of research on passing a SotC / Watchful check)
- Fraught Research Assistant from Christmas (opens up a high research + hand discard option on a rare card)
- moderately high in some advanced stats (get more research from several cards)
and tbh if I was willing to do some tomfoolery with students, it could be optimized even more
