I am tired of paladins being So Good They're Boring. give me paladins who are horny for god. paladins who are yelling at god. paladins who would like to divorce god but are sticking around for the kids' sake, and also because god has a nice ass. paladins whose facebook relationship status with god is "it's complicated"

in reply to @bazelgeuse-apologist's post:

I want the paladin whose relationship with their god is 'it's complicated' on my team. They sound like a person who really takes the time to think about what's important in life.

Due to a condition called "nearly 40 years of religious trauma resulting in atheism and family estrangement", I just can't bring myself to play a paladin or cleric with any real depth to their belief. Like, I've rolled up ones who are zealots in a crusading order, or were given power they don't want, and occasionally ones who figured out how to steal power from divine agents, but never someone with real faith unless they use it for murderhobodom or evil.

It's quite the wrong vibe for this post but I've seen more than one person make the point that in USA/Western culture, the only relationships you can be otherwise-frighteningly intense about the object of your affections in are romantic ones

But once upon a time that was definitely a niche served by religion– not that you HAD to be, but that a lot of people DID have all those intense brain chemicals sloshing around them @ God or Jesus or Mary (maybe/possibly/probably other religions too, dunno)
