- unlike twitter/mastodon, conversations with private accounts are completely hidden here if you don't follow that account
- this is unambiguously how it should work everywhere. what the fuck twitter/mastordon
- if a private account follows you, they'll show up in your followers list (but you won't get a notification unless you follow them)
- follow requests don't currently generate notifications
- it may or may not be where people are hiding the 'good posts'. seems to be on an account-by-account basis
