Just showed a double feature of Vertigo (which I had seen years ago but not recently) and The Green Fog (Guy Maddin & Evan and Galen Johnson's remake of Vertigo assembled from tv/film footage shot in San Francisco). I remembered Vertigo being on the better half of Hitchcock movies but god it's good and Bernard Hermann's score for it is a best in class score. Depending on how you feel about experimental film, you might bounce off The Green Fog (I think you would know immediately whether it was going to be your kind of thing) but everyone I watched it with thought it was phenomenal. It's impressive, it retains a lot of the charm and humour of a Maddin work. Also it's got an original score by the Kronos Quartet that I probably would think is quite good if it wasn't being juxtaposed with Vertigo itself.
The Green Fog is up on Vimeo and I heavily recommend it but also that you watch Vertigo first. Also, heads up, there are a bunch of jumpy cuts in it and they made me a little nauseous so I guess watch out for that?
