I absolutely despise when you're reading something and an author has made some hackneyed attempt to transcribe how a person would speak instead of just describing how they talk and then writing their dialogue like you would any other character. I refuse to say how much of that is because it's almost always incredibly racist or classist in its othering of some character; how much of it is the practical reason that I find it almost entirely unreadable in a way the spoken text would never be; and how much is an honest understanding that someone transcribing the particulars of how I speak would make me sound like a clown

this makes me the most insane when it's some phonetic quirk that literally every native speaker does in spoken English, and if you didn't do it you'd sound incredibly stilted, but that only gets written out phonetically for lower-class characters as a signal that they're lower-class
