@topghost asked:

if someone asked you to dj their wedding reception, but they meant "screen a movie", what movie would you screen at their wedding reception and why

My first thought was trying to think of an appropriately romantic movie, and my second thought was you pick something thematically inappropriate, like The Graduate. But I think we can be honest about the kind of person who has a movie screened at their wedding. Their favourite genre is horror.

Therefore, I would screen The Wicker Man (1973). At its base, it's an absolute banger of a film but things it's got in its favour as a wedding film:

  • good vibes. who in the family won't enjoy a heartwarming tale about a nosy, sanctimonious cop getting what's coming to him?
  • not gory so the whole family can enjoy (uh, maybe don't have the kids listen to the list minute or two of it?)
  • about a ritual and coming together
  • not only is it sex positive, it comes down on the side that it would have been bad if the people getting married hadn't been having premarital sex
  • good music
  • it's a colourful movie that is easy to enjoy the look of even if you aren't giving it you're full attention

If the people getting married somehow aren't horror buffs I'm playing Mamma Mia because it's on theme and I think it's genuinely fun (even if, and I can't stress how actually annoyed I am by this, Brosnan isn't who sings Take A Chance on Me)
