Oh this makes me feel a lot better about my personal conclusion of “there are an awful lot of things that look kinda like dandelions”
there sure are, huh? I feel like I just guess it's a dandelion if there's exactly one flower per plant and a spiny sowthistle if there is a bigger stalk with multiple flowers but I know we have more
I’ve learned to identify salsify but I’m not going to even pretend to distinguish yellow salsify from meadow salsify.
whoa, I don't think I've ever seen that before. I'm gonna be on the lookout next summer
They like ditches, overgrown areas at the side of the road, that sort of thing. They’re a couple feet tall and very “weed”-y. Like a lot of urban wildflowers, once you learn to spot them you see the suckers everywhere.
update: i have seen salsify a few times now, I just have missed it when it was still flowering. I was just trying to identify "huge dandelion" and realized this was the same thing
