I also feel like as I've grown older, movies have shifted more and more into the same category as books for me. A century+ of good movies is less than a millenia+ of books but it's also so long that I have trouble thinking of recency being an important factor in a film. It makes sense there would be awards for new ones but why would I care about an award show for movies made this year in basically one country and language. I've seen four 2023 films and it's not like the academy is going to recognize Infinity Pool

Maybe some recognition to A Haunting in Venice too. I think those films have fully slipped below the quality threshold that I'll watch them even if they aren't very good because I want a period mystery to watch with my parents
