I rewatched the first episode of the new season of Drive to Survive this weekend with my parents and I get why you would start with an episode about Stroll injuring himself right before the first race but wow is it rough to start on the least likeable guy in F1 and his son1.
It's just kind of impressive how completely uncharismatic Lawrence Stroll is. They keep showing him give speeches and he just doesn't have it. He's not inspiring. He doesn't seem to be adding anything beyond a ton of money and a seat for his son2.
I do really enjoy that he says he's a business man so obviously he likes winning and I know how he thinks that follows but it really doesn't. Business people seem to think business is the only place outside sport where people might compete or want to do their best. They also don't want me to think about how noncompetitive business often is and that if you think about sports teams run as businesses it is occasionally a juggernaut team that is winning because they have so much extra money they could buy their way to success3 or perennial loser teams that never need to be good because there are enough people in their area that will buy season tickets anyway4

Had a lot of trouble deciding whether I needed to write son or dad here.

Light Lance Stroll defender mode activated: who knows about next season when the contracts are all up and everything is weird but it doesn't feel unreasonable that Stroll has a seat as a #2 on a mid-level team
-
I guess to be fair this is exactly what billionaires seem to think competitive means

Am I talking about the Maple Leafs or the Bears or some other team? Who can say
