Remembering how, back in the day, I went through my contact list and found a song that best matched each person. I think apps/websites should let me choose different tones based on who generated a notification.

Oh, I'd set the default notification noise to silent and then would come up with cool sounds for close friends (and also cool sounds for people I'm not friends with but I think are cool so I'd be excited if they noticed me)
okay, one more thought that is a specific feature request for here. On my friend's book tracking site, the notification alert is a different colour for comments/replies than for faves/boosts. I think this is nice and would love to see something like that here.
I would also like it if I could (privately) mark some people as close friends and have a different notification colour/symbol if they're in my notifications but that's a bunch of work for minimal outcome
